Stylish Timber Duet Retractable Roof
The Duet Retractable Roof is one of Aalta’s signature products. The Duet features unique dual Nordic Redwood timber posts and rafters, resulting in a refined minimalist timber pergola that imparts a shadow line and a profound sense of structural depth. The retractable awning, made of PVC coated polyester fabric is mounted to the pergola frame using precision-manufactured high-grade 6063 extruded aluminium profiles. When extended it is held under tension, creating a waterproof ‘roof’ and is ideal for outdoor living spaces, beer gardens and public areas. Being motorised, the Duet is easily operated with the push of a button. The roof can remain extended in heavy rains and winds up to 100km/hour.
Our clients in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, were in the process of renovating their outdoor area. The existing awning provided shade but was not aesthetically complementary to the home, nor did it allow for all-weather protection.
Aalta proposed a Duet Retractable Roof to replace the existing awning. The new pergola and retractable roof were extended to a projection of 5480mma allowing for a larger outdoor area to entertain and relax with family and friends.
Specifications were as follows:
- 3655mm wide x 5480mm projection
- Dual Nordic Redwood Glulam timber rafters and posts, stained Curtex natural
- Aluminium profiles for the retractable roof were powder coated in Ironstone and the fabric was Pearl white translucent pvc coated polyester
- Retractable gutter moves with the roof as it retracts, eliminating a front beam and allowing for an openness into the garden
- Downpipe and flashings along the back line and rafters provide extra protection from the rain
The result, a beautiful back yard with an alfresco area that can be used in inclement weather. The Duet Retractable Roof seamlessly allows the indoors to flow to the outdoors, with the warmth of the timber and the stylish design of the dual posts and rafters of the pergola frame complementing the stunning design of the garden and furnishings.
